Inktober Day #8

Day 8 - "More Red Spandex"
Day 8 - So after finishing yesterday's Inktober sketch, I realized that Mr. Incredible's costume is very similar to that of this guy--Freakazoid!  So I thought I'd draw him for today's entry.  Afterwards I thought it would be amusing to see them together with their almost-identical costumes.  So I used photoshop to combine both images together.

(just for fun)

Inktober Day #7

Day 7 - "Incredible"
Day 7 - One of my favorite Pixar movies.  Enough said.

Inktober Day #6

Day #6 - I recently saw the movie, "The Equalizer," with Denzel Washington.  Originally, my friend and I were planning on seeing a different movie, but plans kinda fell through after tickets were sold out.  So instead, we decided on "The Equalizer," as our second option.  I didn't really have too many expectations going into it.  I felt the beginning dragged a bit, but overall, I ended up enjoying it a lot.

Inktober Day #5

Day 5 - "Collie Herb Man"
Day 5 - This was based off a song with the same title, by a New Zealand roots reggae band, Katchafire.  They were actually performing in San Francisco, but I wasn't able to go see them because I couldn't find anyone else to accompany me.  Kinda bummed that I couldn't go.  So as a result, I was forced to listen to them at home, on my headphones.

Inktober Day #4

Day 4 - "Nerd or Hipster"

Day #4 - Although the drawing seems a bit cliche, I just wanted to keep things relatively simple.  Intentionally wanted to keep the details subtle and not over exaggerate them, as I did not want to make it obvious.  My aim was to make things somewhat ambiguous.

INKTOBER! Days 1, 2, & 3!

This is a bit of a late post as I have been busy the last few days.  The fall is finally upon us, and it's a new month; my favorite time of the year!

As an artist, I feel like I'm constantly learning new things, always trying to improve my craft.  With that said, I felt like challenging myself by participating in the "Inktober Initiative," which started back in 2009 by artist Jake Parker.  Basically, the idea of Inktober is to do one ink drawing a day for the entire month, as a means to not only improve drawing skills, but also to develop consistent drawing habits.  So here are my drawings from the past 3 days.

Day 1 - "Here Comes Halloween"
Day #1 - It's a new month, so I thought, what better way to start the month and kick off Inktober than with The Pumpkin King himself, Jack Skellington!

Day 2 - "Sickly"
Day #2 - As the fall season approaches, so does the cold/flu season.  The other day, my girlfriend was feeling a bit under the weather.  At first, she thought it was just an allergy attack.  So we left the house thinking it would subside, and her sinuses would clear up.  Turns out,  she just ended up feeling worse.  Hopefully, she isn't getting sick.

Day 3 - "Don't Make Him Angry"
Day #3 - As a Bay Area resident and sports fan, October means Postseason baseball!  The SF Giants are just coming off a wild card victory against the Pirates, and now it's Game 1 of the NLDS.  The panda idea was inspired by Pablo Sandoval, whose nicknamed "Panda," or "Kung Fu Panda.

So Inktober is off to a great start, and I am definitely looking forward to what's ahead.  Stay tuned for more updates! Enjoy!

Phillippine Independence Day!

Finally finished my "Captain" painting.  And coincidently, today happens to be Philippine Independence day!  Anyways, there were a few minor things that were changed since the last update, but overall, I had a lot of fun with this one!  Enjoy.

SubZERO Festival

Every first Friday of the month, there is an art walk that takes place in downtown San Jose.  Today, was a bit different in that it was the opening night of the 7th annual SubZERO Festival. It was an evening of art, music, and culture, as a street stretching 3-blocks, was filled with vendor booths, food trucks and live music.

There was one booth, in particular, promoting an upcoming Chalk Art Festival and encouraged people to grab some pastels and go nuts, right on the street!  Being in that type of environment, completely surrounded in art and creativity, I couldn't resist the urge to get down on the ground and participate.

out of all the open space, I chose a tight spot

it's no fun unless you wear it!

"Captain" Update!

So I've been slowly plugging away at the "Captain" concept.  It seems to be coming along well.  I showed my sister the concept along with my progress thus far, and she got a good laugh from it! So I know I'm in the right direction.  Anyway, I'm starting to flesh out the concept to a where I have it "inked" or line drawn, and have the armor painted.  More to come soon!

Captain Ame....Wait, Who?!

So lately, I've been on somewhat of a superhero trend/theme as my girlfriend and I have been watching a lot of superhero movies.  One of those movies we saw when it was released was Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier.  A short while after watching the film, my girlfriend cracked a joke, and mentions something about a "Captain Philippines."  Then, it suddenly occurred to me that, along with Captain America, the Marvel Universe also has a Captain Britain.  Then I thought, "What if there were other superheroes like Captain America & Britain, but from other countries?  Captain (fill in the blank)."  I soon realized that my girlfriend's initial joke would make for an interesting/amusing concept.

"Captain Philippines" Concept

So this is the concept sketch I came up with.  The costuming was based mostly off of Captain America.  I had a few other costume design ideas as I was sketching it out, but decided to keep the simple design, as I thought it worked best.  The shield is still up-in-the-air.  I haven't decided on how the shield will look at this point, or if it will even be circular in shape.  I'm definitely looking forward to how this eventually turns out.  I'll keep updates with my progress.  Thanks, enjoy!

THE Fair Lady

May 4th marked what would have been the 85th birthday of Audrey Hepburn.  So I thought I'd do my own little (belated) birthday tribute to the beautiful Academy Award-winning actress. Although I'm not a huge fan, I've always wanted to do some type of portrait of the film icon.

Fan Art

It's been a while since the last post, but the inspiration and motivation has been a bit inadequate.  The other day, I was just browsing around on deviantArt and got a random spark of inspiration from a portrait/pinup.  I decided to do a speed painting just to get into the painting motion.  Later, I eventually decided to turn my speed painting into a superhero portrait.  This was due to the small superhero kick that my girlfriend and I have been on.  Recently, we watched (not in one night) the new "Captain America 2" film in the theater, as well as "The Wolverine" and "Pacific Rim" on dvd.  So as a result, I ended up with a painting of X-Men's, Rogue.  Enjoy!
